Work Hardening & Texturing wire - 13.03.25 2:30pm -5:30pm
Whether you are hammering for function or texture, getting to grips with how to hammer your work is an essential skill for jewellery making.
In this workshop, I will show you how to work harden your wire so that it holds its shape and strengthens your designs. I will also so show you how to flare and taper your wire to create brooch pins, headpins and also how to hammer for texture and extra decoration.
You will create a host of jewellery and findings, including headpins, S-hooks, brooch pins and simple wrap around rings.
Materials you will need:
(wires would be best in bare copper or sterling silver if you prefer)
· 0.6mm wire (not essential)
· 0.8mm wire
· 1mm wire
· 1.5mm wire
· Gems/beads to embellish if desired.
Tools you will need:
· Ball pein hammer (a flat end and a ball end)
· Texture hammers (not essential)
· Steel block
· Basic tool kit comprising of, flat/chain nose pliers, round nose pliers, wire cutters
· Ring mandrel
· Wire mandrels or 6 step bail making pliers
· Needle files
