Prong setting rings & cabochons, online workshop 06.09.22. 10am-1pm
Prong settings are such a useful and beautiful way to set gemstones and cabochons, they are safe, secure and prevent obscuring the beauty of the gem you are setting. Such simplicity in a setting means that more precision is needed, this workshop will help you achieve that precision and help you with strategies to achieve the perfect prongs for your gems, whether creating a ring, pendant, or connector.
This workshop will cover creating single prongs, double prongs, how to space prongs and how to navigate different shape gemstones. We will use these techniques to create a ring, complete with a woven shank and a simple cabochon pendant.
Materials you will need:
· 0.4mm wire
· 0.8mm wire
· 1mm wire
· Selection of cabochons suitable for rings and pendants (any shape)
Tools you will need:
· Basic tool kit comprising of; flat/chain nose pliers, round nose pliers, wire cutters
· Ring Mandrel or similar
· Ruler
· Paper and pencil
· Blue tack or similar (useful not essential)
