This popular workshop will get you started with using alcohol inks and help you to make your ink art completely unique by showing you doodle techniques that will have you mesmerised.
The workshop is perfect for complete beginners but can also help seasoned inkers get new ideas and inspiration for developing their work.
This full day workshop is split into two parts as follows:
Part 1 – How to use alcohol inks with Laura Binding
10:00am – 10.30am: Welcome and general chat about alcohol inks, materials, safety and approach to design
10.30am – 12.20pm : We will be creating a piece of art using 2 – 3 colours and learning how to move the inks around to create beautiful art.
12.30pm – 1.30pm: hour break for lunch and to finish and allow pictures to dry
Part 2 – How to doodle with Gemma Crow
1:30 – 2:00: Introduction to materials, hints and tips, discussing composition and achieving direction and flow.
2:00 – 2:30: Explore a variety of mark making techniques and develop confidence and guidance for working directly into your ink painting.
2:30 – 4:00: Doodle time, with plenty of hints tips and guidance throughout.
Materials for Part 1:
Essential materials
Well ventilated area
Alcohol inks – 2-3 contrasting base colours and a metallic if you want
99.9% isopropyl (rubbing alcohol)
Something to move the inks i.e Air puffer, straw, balloon pump.
Pipette or applicator bottle (something to put the rubbing alcohol onto the paper)
Yupo or napa paper (special paper for inks)
Paper towels
Disposable gloves (optional)
Recommended
These are not needed for the workshop itself but is advisable for continued use with Alcohol Inks
Face mask/respirator with filters
Air puffer
Low heat or cool heat hairdryer (I used a travel hair dryer but there are other options)
Sealant spray
UV spray
Materials for part 2
Pigment ink fine liner pens in Black- recommended 0.5, 0.3, 0.1 and 0.05 tips
Paper to practice mark-making techniques preferably yupo or napa.
You may also wish to use acrylic paint pens, white can add additional depth and interest.
