I have been busy filming tutorials today, so as I had everything out I thought I would do a few cheeky freebies to share! More suited to those new to wire work . hope you enjoy them and find them useful. The first is a very simple trilogy ring and the second a little spiral teardrop that can be used alone or within other jewellery designs.

Two years in the mind and one year in the making, |
Making the Blue Tit is not a quick job and takes a bit of working out but the results are so worth it! This is my first time creating a sculpture with seed beads, but I am almost certain it wont be my last, some of the effects and details I achieved just could not be done with wire alone, especial the subtle colour graduations. I won't be ruling out wire but I will certainly be using seed beads in the future for details.
These Photos are not a definitive guide to making the bird but in conjunction with the demonstration on Jewellery Maker at 1 pm on Friday 16th June, they should go a long way to helping you create your own. Happy making! |
Spoilt Rotten Beads have set me a challenge to create a statement, festival inspired piece of jewellery to be worn by proprietor Juliet Browse during their 'Bead Fest' on the 24th June This year! A tall order, but I am up for the challenge and it helps that the products selected are just so gorgeous! There are elements I have never worked with too, so this is exciting! The challenge was originally set via face book live so if you would like to see the video click the link. My Creative mind is working overtime right now and I can't wait to get started, stay up to date with my progress with this challenge via Crows Mojo on Facebook or subscribing to my You tube Channel or by checking in here regularly. |
It is always scary, unpacking the carefully wrapped designs that I have made for the show and laying them out on the various busts and mannequins ready to be scrutinised firstly by the crew and then, and ultimately, by the army of talented JM viewers! but when I hear a 'OOH!' or 'AH!' from the team, the first little bubble of nerves pops and I start to relax!
This time my 'OOH' piece was the one featured on the left of this post, Vicky thought that the viewers would like to see how it was constructed in it's entirety and the show was built around showing this piece demonstrated in 3 parts; firstly the chain, then the Clasp, and thirdly the centre piece. You can see these demos on the Youtube video linked below. I also demonstrated one technique from each of the other two kits, and managed to complete a challenge!! Phew! I was a busy bee indeed!
Not surprisingly the 4 hours seemed to fly by and before I knew it we were saying goodbye and packing up to go home again. And of course get my thinking cap on for what to come up with for the next show!! 'No Pressure Gemma' I tell myself, then go right ahead and put some on! You can find the recording of the show and pictures of all my designs featured within it by clicking the button below. Hope you enjoy. x
- Part 1 shows how to create the hook and eye clasp.
- Part 2 demonstrates the plait style weave, in particular how to trap the beads so that they stay where they are supposed to within the plait.
- Part 3 demonstrates how to create the Celtic style drop/pendant
I have split the tutorial into these three parts for a couple of reasons, mainly the whole tutorial would be far too long and you would probably nod off half way through! but also because some of you may already know how to do some of the stages and may want to skip straight to the pendant part. Without fancy camera shots and lighting it is quite difficult to show this technique, but I hope I have managed to compensate with thorough narration! (you always have a mute button if my incessant talking gets on your wick!!) If you feel I have missed something or you still have a question regarding this technique please get in touch via my facebook page. Please also share the creations you make, I and others would love to see them. I am also looking for more tutorial requests so again please send them in via my facebook page. Happy creating! Gemma.x

I must start by apologising to you all for the amount of time that has lapsed since my last blog entry, it has been a very busy few months with many unexpected ups and downs, so I have appreciated your patience greatly; Thank you!
If you are new to this blog, I would like to welcome you warmly and invite you tosubscribe to my blog, like my facebook page and/or join the new group Buckinghamshire Beaders. But lets get on with why you are really here!!!................ To steal my designs and replicate them for your own ends!!! I am joking of course! You are more than welcome to these designs. There are not many techniques or designs out there that have not already been done so really nobody can own a design, they can adapt, embellish or alter the use, but alas I am beginning to believe that there is absolutely nothing out there in the jewellery world that hasn't already been done. (said with a large sigh, a slight sniffle and a poked out bottom lip!) With this in mind I am chuffed to be able to share my adaptions and even more chuffed that you have chosen to learn the techniques via my Blog! I hope very much that you enjoy this tutorial and that it is clear enough for you to replicate, adapt or embellish yourself! I would love to see the creations you make using this technique so please remember to post pictures of them on myfacebook page for everyone to admire.
If you enjoyed or found this tutorial useful then please feel free (not obliged) to buy me a coffee! x
I hope you are having a wonderful Easter break and managing to squeeze in plenty of 'Me Time' (aka 'jewellery making') Well just in case you haven't yet, here is a perfect excuse! I have just made my second video tutorial which demonstrates how to make the bracelet pictured on the left. It is a lovely technique that will come in handy in many many designs. It is simple and fun to do and looks so effective. The tutorial is a long one though, about 20 mins, this is because the most important and most fiddly part of creating this piece is to finish it neatly. I have spent quite a bit of time demonstrating this as I feel it is as or maybe even more important than the weave itself. Not only is this type of finishing crucial to the overall look of this piece it is also a useful technique for any necklace or bracelet project allowing you not to be limited by how many strands you can fit through a crimp bead!
As always, I hope you enjoy this demo and that it is clear enough for you to go forth and make your own. Please let me know your thoughts and please also post your creations on my Facebook Page, I would love to see them.
Much Love Gemma .
